Zubimendi at right-back: both sides of the coin
- A midfielder at right-back. With White, Saliba and Mosquera unavailable, Arteta used Zubimendi there. After Julienne came on, Zubimendi moved back into midfield.
- Going forward it worked. He timed a run into the box like a No.8 and set up Dowman's second.
- Defending wide, it didn't. Sixty seconds after coming on, Clarke went past him for Ipswich's first goal. Sports Illustrated and VAVEL both flagged Arsenal's right side after half-time.
- Arsenal's press did the damage early. Goals one and two both started with Arsenal winning the ball in Ipswich's half (Arseblog).

The cup tie that answered Saturday's question four days early.
Start with a warning: four goals from 0.95 xG is finishing well above the chances created. Don't read the scoreline as domination. Ipswich made ten changes too, and the second half was even.
What matters is how the goals were made. Goal two is the move Arsenal couldn't produce at Brighton: a midfielder (Merino) who looks forward first, and a winger (Madueke) already sprinting behind the last defender. One pass, whole defence beaten. Goal one shows the other anti-press tool: Dowman beats a man while carrying the ball, and the moment one marker is beaten, a man-to-man system has no cover.
Dowman is 16, and Arteta is right to protect his minutes. But his skill set, carrying through pressure in the middle of the pitch, is exactly what the senior side lacked on Saturday. I'd expect him to get more than nine minutes the next time Arsenal face a pressing side.
